Dear friends,

It is now nearly one month since the day our dear Cardinal left this world for eternal life. I know I owe you a letter of thanks. I wish I could do so earlier, but I just could not bring myself to do it. Today still with effort I am writing these short lines to thank you, on behalf of my family, with all my heart to all your prayers and condolences. I wish I could say more to express my gratitude, but I find words are inadequate. Our hearts are together in this mourning.

In this common sorrow I find spiritual strength and great comfort and I am sure you do too. Union brings strength, and we are more united at this time than ever before. Our cardinal must be very happy to see us so united.

I have told you the story of the Indian lady coming to the hospital to ask the Cardinal to give his blessing to her son, who after reading his book, decided to become a seminarian. I have recently received his letter, I like to share his news with you. He wrote:

... "Right now I am not yet in the seminary. Mine is somewhat of a late vocation and right now I am in my final year (part 1) of medical college. I wanted to leave and join the seminary but was asked by the Archbishop to finish my studies before joining the seminary. So I have about a year and a half before I actually join. But my decision is final and I can’t wait to join. I was hesitant at first but after reading the Cardinal’s book I was strengthened and made my decision..."

Three days ago Archbishop Tikang of Taiwan visited us. He told us: 'the Ambassador of Taiwan and his wife told me they cried so much at the
Cardinal's funeral Mass and they wished he was still alive so he can baptise them'.

Before leaving, however, I just want to tell you that our Cardinal said his Spiritual Will to all of us is his book: The Road of Hope.
He also reminds us in his words:

"Hãy yêu mến Mẹ Maria
Trông cậy Thánh Giuse
Trung thành phục vụ Hội Thánh
Hiệp nhất và bác ái với mọi người"

Thanks also to your prayers, my mother has acceptec the Will of God gracefully.

When he was sick she prayed continuously with her rosary 'that he follows the Will of God' and when she was told of the news, she was relaxed and calmly said: now he no longer suffers, he is in Heaven. When she watched the video of the funeral Mass, she wiped her tears just for one minute and remained calm, following the Mass.

There are so much that I wish to share with you, but right now I need a lot of rest.

THANK YOU ALL once again and be assured that I remember you all in my daily prayers, as I hope you do for me, so we all can advance together in our Road of Hope.

Yours very sincerely,

Anne Ham Tieu
